A Bond That Begins with Fencing
ALBEF Sports Club was founded to pass on our experience in fencing to the next generation and make sport a lasting part of their lives. At our club in Çekmeköy, Istanbul, we welcome athletes of different ages and abilities, from those discovering fencing for the first time to those pursuing new goals in competition.
We believe every athlete has their own path. Across our beginner, development and performance programmes, we work on technical skills alongside decision-making, focus and determination. We want our athletes to recognise their progress, take responsibility and put in the work needed to reach their goals.
To us, being a club means sharing something that extends beyond training hours. Athletes support one another at tournaments, families share in the excitement, and coaches pass on what they have learned. Together, they shape our club culture. Camps, social gatherings and opportunities to try other sports help strengthen that connection.
At ALBEF Sports Club, we hope the progress our athletes make on the piste carries into the rest of their lives. We grow together by sharing the joy of winning, the lessons that come with losing and the value of working as a team.
OUR COACHES
Turhan Berke Külcü
Co-Founder & Fencing Coach
Turhan Berke Külcü is a senior national team fencer with 11 Turkish championship titles across the cadet, junior and senior categories, as well as four Federation Cup titles. He has represented Türkiye at five European Championships, four World Championships and 15 World Cups.
A graduate of Özyeğin University with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Külcü combines an analytical approach with years of experience on the piste. His coaching focuses on athletes’ technical development, tactical skills and preparation for competition.
Yiğit Ali Dörtbudak
Co-Founder & Fencing Coach
Yiğit Ali Dörtbudak is a national team fencer with over 20 years of experience in the sport. He won the Turkish championship in the cadet category and a Federation Cup title. Throughout his career, he has earned medals and trophies at national competitions and competed in more than 30 events across Europe.
A Mechanical Engineering graduate of Istanbul University, Dörtbudak draws on his experience on the piste and his engineering background to develop athletes’ technical skills and support their preparation for competition.
Ayberk Külcü
Fencing Coach
Ayberk Külcü is a Hotel Management student at Özyeğin University and a competitive fencer. He has achieved notable results at Turkish championships and international competitions and won the team title at the Turkish Interuniversity Championships.
At ALBEF, he works with children of different ages. He adapts training to each athlete’s level, focusing on fundamental fencing skills, coordination and group activities.
Elif Yalcin
Fencing Coach
Elif Yalçın has competed in both foil and epee and has represented Türkiye as a national team fencer since the cadet category. She has achieved notable results at Turkish championships and international competitions across several age categories.
She is studying Industrial Engineering at Özyeğin University.
At ALBEF, she works with athletes of different ages. She brings her competitive experience in both weapons to her coaching, focusing on technical skills and bout practice.
